Unlimited Uses of Limit Switches

You may be familiar with the panel mounted kill switch for motorboat engines or the dishwasher “door closed” detector. More applications include high tech industrial equipment and even military grade use.
There are application issues that attract limit switch customers to CPI over other manufacturers:
• A failure rate on another manufacturer’s limit switch claiming to be waterproof
• Custom requirements – i.e. form-fit-and-function replacement of a switch that isn’t reliable
• Safety Applications – it is generally a bad idea to cut costs by looking for cheap “water resistant” limit switches when machine or human safety is a concern
• Limit switch use in a hot, dirty, dusty and wet environment. This is where our limit switches live and thrive
CPI was tasked with replacing a roller actuator style limit switch used as a direction indicator in a Vermeer Brush Clipper. The client had grown frustrated with the old switch’s field failures and lack of supposed water resistance.
In addition to providing a truly waterproof solution, a custom angle mount was developed to fit the existing mounting provisions. Our basic switch was drawn from the limit switch E1 series with a completely sealed roller actuator design. In the CPI solution both a “right and left” version of the actuator were created and the switch was completely sealed in santoprene insuring high immunity from the violent wood chipper operating environment. Nothing could penetrate our seal and our field testing allowed our E1243, and E1320 to be deployed as a permanent production solution.

Landscaping Wood Chipper – Vermeer Brush Chippers
CPI was tasked with replacing a roller actuator style limit switch used as a direction indicator in a Vermeer Brush Clipper. The client had grown frustrated with the old switch’s field failures and lack of supposed water resistance.

Military Vehicle “Cab Down” Detection – Oshkosh Truck LTAS vehicle
In this LTAS compliant vehicle developed for the US Army, the engine can only be accessed by raising the entire cab. But, before this can be done, the cab must be locked into place. Imagine the operating environment inside a hot enclosed engine bay in a vehicle design for active military duty. We don’t think it gets much rougher than that.
In this application Oshkosh was again replacing some other manufacturer’s switch due to its frequent failure in dust, dirt and mud. Oshkosh chose the CPI E1 series plunger switch and we were able to fully qualify it demonstrating improved electromechanical endurance and an extreme resistance to temperature and particulates found in the operating environment.
